Qualification overview and objective
The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace. It is designed for learners wishing to apply for a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a door supervisor and is based on the relevant SIA specification for learning and qualifications.
Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)
Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to become emergency first-aiders in the workplace. This qualification meets the requirements for training emergency first-aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff members need to be trained to this level within their first-aid needs assessment.
How long will it take?
To complete this qualification, learners should expect to undertake 7 hours (1- day course) of learning, typically over one day, with a minimum contact time of 6 hours.
Topics covered
The qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider and how to assess an incident. The qualification also covers first aid skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), providing first aid to a casualty who is choking and dealing with external bleeding and hypovolaemic shock. In line with guidance provided by the HSE, the qualification supports/approves work place emergency first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course.
In addition to this, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.
Qualification specification
To obtain a Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF), attend a training course for a minimum of 6 contact hours, excluding breaks, and pass the examination.
Assessment method
This qualification is assessed by a practical assessment and multiple-choice theory assessment
Condition of Entry
Learners will need to be aged 14 and, whatever their age, are physically capable of completing the practical assessment. Learners must have a basic knowledge and minimum of Level 1 in English skills before enrollment.

Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Top Up)
As a result of changes by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) from 1st April 2021, Door Supervisors who wish to renew their licences are required to undergo additional training (Top Up).
Qualification overview and objective
The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace. It is designed for learners who currently hold a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a door supervisor and need to be brought up to date with the new licence-linked qualifications requirements.
How long will it take?
To complete and gain this qualification, and in order to renew a license, learners are expected to undertake approximately 23 hours of learning. The SIA stipulates a minimum number of contact hours and a minimum number of training days (2 days). 13 hours and 35 minutes applies as minimum contact time only where self-study/distance learning can be evidenced.
If self-study/distance learning is NOT used for this qualification, then the course will be delivered over 2.5-days (18-hours). No self-study means a minimum of 15 hours and 15 minutes.
Entry requirements
To register for this qualification, learners must be aged 18 and over. Learners will need to show that they hold a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate that meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. It is an SIA requirement that training centres must confirm that each learner is sufficiently qualified in First Aid or Emergency First Aid.
Learners should present their First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate before they start training. This certificate must be valid for at least 12 months from the course starts date.
Structure of Course
The SIA and Awarding Bodies have “recognised that there is some learning that contributes to the achievement of the licence-linked qualifications that can be delivered by self-study/distance learning”. As such, the Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry unit has a GLH of 2 hours, of which 1 hour and 40 minutes can be delivered self-study/distance learning. The remaining 20 minutes is the minimum contact time dedicated to the assessment of this unit. Principles of Using Equipment as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry unit has a GLH of 2 hours, of which 1 hour and 45 minutes can be delivered through self-study. The remaining 15 minutes is the minimum contact time dedicated to the assessment of this unit.
Materials for these units/modules are emailed to learners prior to starting the course and learners are expected to have spent stipulated hours – 3 hours and 25 minutes – reading, learning and develop understanding and knowledge about each topic of the units and ask the tutor/trainer any related questions as deemed fit each day and for the duration of the course.
To complete the Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Top Up), learners must complete all units contained within the following mandatory group.

Important note: There are no RPL opportunities for old units (linked with historic security qualifications) that will allow for certification of the above qualification. Therefore, all units linked to this qualification must be completed in full for a learner to be awarded it.
Learners will be required to undertake an initial literacy assessment prior to enrolment and assessment examinations (theory and practical – Physical Intervention) during and at the end of the course. These examinations must be taken to complete your course work requirement.
Learners are required to attend training in tracks suits or suitable clothing for physical activities and must be aware that this course requires a large number of physical activities and will involve physical contact. Learners should consult their GP if they have any pre-existing conditions or have any health issues that could affect them while being involved in Physical Activities.
Learners must ensure their finger nails are cut short as it’s required to comply with Health & safety reasons, and wear suitable flat soled footwear or trainers for the physical intervention unit.
There are no prerequisites for attending this course. However, it is advised that learners should have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.
