As a result of the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, a Security Officer licence is required when security guarding activities – manned security or physical security – are carried out to monitor the activities of a member of the public or private place; or to identify a particular person.
As of 1st of April 2021, the course title, training contents, delivery and Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and Contact time for the SIA licence-linked qualifications, including Working as a Door Supervisor, have changed.
How long will it take?
To complete this qualification learners are expected to undertake approximately 42 hours of learning. The SIA stipulates a minimum of 29 contact hours (4-days) if self-study/flexible distance learning is undertaken.
If distance learning is NOT used for this qualification, then the course will be delivered over 5-days (38-hours).
Structure of Course
The SIA “recognises that there is some learning that contributes to the achievement of the licence-linked qualifications that can be delivered by selfstudy learning”. As such, Self-study will be used to deliver up to eight hours of Unit/Module 1: Principles of Working in the Private Security Industry of this course. Materials for these units/modules are emailed to candidates prior to starting the course. A textbook and workbook will be provided to the learners by email. The learners will then read and self-study the textbook for 8 hours, complete the workbook and email back to the centre for review prior to course taking place; and this will then be kept on their file for audit purposes. It is also a requirement that the centre checks these during training to ensure appropriate learning has occurred. This will be quality assured through Highfield’s external quality assurance processes. The learners should ask the tutor/trainer any related questions as deemed fit each day and for the duration of the course.

To register for this qualification, learners MUST be aged 18 and over.
