Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) (RQF) (Former PTLLS),
which is aimed at learners aged 19 and over, provides an introduction to teaching for learners who would like to work or currently work within FE Colleges, Private Training Providers, etc. It is also designed to meet the needs of various trainee teachers and learners currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a teaching qualification.
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) is ideal for new entrants into the teaching industry. It is also ideal for anyone currently teaching or who wishes to teach their specialised subject to others. If you are a trainer involved in providing funded Work- Based Learning (WBL), you may also be required to obtain Education and Training in order to satisfy the Learning Skills Council (LSC) requirements.
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF), with a Credit Value of 12, is delivered every month at various training venues/centres across has been designed to be completed in 3 days.
Qualification Structure
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) comprises of mandatory and optional units. Learners must achieve a minimum of 12 credits by achieving:
- 3 credits from Mandatory Group A;
- 6 credits from Mandatory Group B; and
- 3 credits from Mandatory Group C
Assessment method
- Learners must complete a practical assessment consisting a 30-minute micro-teach session which will be delivered as part of the programme, after which both tutor and peer feedback will be given;
- Learners must complete and submit (over set deadline) a portfolio of evidence that will meet the learning outcome for the units that have been given; and
- Learners will be able to apply and show evidence of both theoretical and practical knowledge in their portfolio.
Condition of Entry
Learners are expected to meet the required standards of Functional Skills (English, Mathematics and ICT) needed to undertake this course and are expected to be qualified and/or experienced in the subject they might want to
teach.
Level 3 Award in the delivery of Conflict Management Training (RQF) is designed for teaching candidates who require training in conflict management skills and who have customer facing role, deals with service users or members of the public. It is also designed for candidates who wish to teach conflict management skills. If you have already completed some kind of generic training qualification, such as Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sectors (PTLLS), and now require a specialist qualification, like conflict management skills, this course is tailored for you.
The Level 3 Award in the delivery of Conflict Management (RQF) can be taken as a stand-alone course or as part of a wider programmed training. So, to gain the award, learners will need to attend a training course for a minimum of 36 guided learning hours, pass the examination and successfully complete assessments for
the units. To attend, learners must be 18 and over.
Qualification Structure
The Level 3 Award in the delivery of Conflict Management (RQF), which meets the criteria as set by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) for candidates delivering the licence to practice qualifications and which contains two
compulsory modules – delivered once a month at various training venues/centres across London – has been designed to be completed in 3 days. The modules covered are:
- Managing conflict in the workplace when dealing with Customers, Service Users or members of the public
- Delivery scenario-based conflict management training
Assessment method
- A 30-question multiple-choice written examination. To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 20 out of 30 questions
- Learners must complete a practical assessment consisting a 30-minute micro-teach session which will be delivered as part of the programme, after which both tutor and peer feedback will be given
- Learners must complete (over set deadline after class) and submit a portfolio of evidence that will meet the learning outcome for the units that have been given.
Condition of entry
Learners are expected to have completed a teaching/training qualification (Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF) or above).
Level 3 Award for the deliverers of Physical Intervention (RQF)
This Level 3 Award for the Deliverers of Physical Intervention training programme has been designed for those intending to offer physical intervention skills training or who wish to train other training providers in this area.
The Course is also suitable for staff who may have to deal with vulnerable young people or vulnerable adults or staff who perform low risk security or door supervision roles.
It is also suitable for those who are looking to provide physical restraint training in mental health areas as well as schools, care homes and the NHS.
Once completed learners will be qualified to train others in how to assess situations to decide whether physical intervention is necessary and, if so, the appropriate methods of intervention.
This award consists of two units: –
- Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry
- Delivering Physical Intervention Skills Training
Learners will gain appreciation of physical interventions and the legal/professional implications of their use. Candidates will learn how to reduce the risk of harm when physical intervention skills are used, be able to use non-
aggressive physical skills to protect oneself and others from assault, also be able to use non-pain related standing holding and escorting techniques, including non-restrictive and restrictive skills. And understand good practice to follow after physical interventions.
To continue with unbroken delivery of the Physical Intervention programme, trainers will need to recertify before the expiry date of their approval. If approval has lapsed, the trainer can attend the 1-day recertification programmed within 6 months of the expiry date; after 6 months trainers may need to attend a 3-day course to gain re-approval.

Learners are expected to have successfully completed a teaching/training qualification (e.g., Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) or above) and a Level 3 Award in the delivery of Conflict Management Training (RQF).
